The Walnut Grove MS  Band  program grows every year, and is currently  around 250  members!  The Walnut Grove MS Band is one of the largest organizations at Walnut Grove Middle School. There are  three 7th and 8th grade bands, whose membership is based on musical ability. Beginning Band classes are divided into like-instrument classes in order to teach instrumental skills more efficiently and include: Flute/Oboe/Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion beginner classes.
Walnut Grove  Middle School opened in the Fall of 2005.  The school is located in Midlothian, Texas and is a part of the Midlothian Independent School District.  The elementary schools that currently feed Walnut Grove  MS are Longbranch  Elementary, Baxter  Elementary, and McClatchey Elementary.

WGMS honors Band

The Honors Band at Walnut Grove Middle School has received consistent Superior ratings at UIL concert and sight-reading contests as well as Best in Class awards at other contests and festivals. In addition, the Honors Band is a State Award-Winning Ensemble. As the varsity band at WGMS, preparation for high school band is the primary objective. Selection into this group is by audition, director recommendation, and demonstration of academic proficiency. Members in this ensemble will participate in the All-Region Band process, Solo and Ensemble Contest, preparations for special possible honor concerts, and UIL Concert and Sight- reading Contest. Members of this group will have one section rehearsal outside of the school day each week. Additional rehearsals will be scheduled as needed. The Honors Band will give numerous performances both on and off campus. Instrumentation in the Honors Band is limited to those who show advanced performance abilities, commitment, and superior attitudes. Members are selected by audition and must meet the minimum requirements for performance. Private Lessons are a requirement for students in the Honors Band. 

WGMS Symphonic BandS 1 & 2

The Symphonic Band at Walnut Grove Middle School has received consistent Superior ratings at UIL concert and sight-reading contests over the past decade.  We are fortunate to have two Symphonic Bands at Walnut Grove Middle School this year (Symphonic Band 1 and Symphonic Band 2)!   The Symphonic Bands are   intermediate    performing groups with preparation for the Honors Band as a primary objective for 7th graders, and high school band as the objective for 8th graders.  At varying levels, the Symphonic band will participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest and UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest. Members of Symphonic Band will have one section rehearsal outside of the school day. Members are selected by audition and must meet the minimum requirements for performance.

WGMS Beginning band

The Beginner Band consists of all beginner classes combined together to form a large and united group!  Each Beginner class meets separately in  like-instrument classes in order to allow for more individualized and personal instruction. ALL INSTRUMENTS ARE TO BE TAKEN HOME DAILY! The more you play your instrument, the more  success you will experience! This creates a great cycle of pay off and seeing progress in the long run. The  Beginner Band will have a few outside of school rehearsals prior to any concert or performance in order to practice all together as   a group. Please refer to your Band Calendar for these dates and times. The Beginner Band participates in a Winter, and Spring combined concert, as well as a Demonstration Concert in the fall where each class is featured. Beginner Students will also perform in the Solo Festival and will also travel to various Spring Contests each year.
